14 Days Q&A Online Course

I love to learn and my latest little achievement was to complete Lou Walsh‘s ’14 Days to Wake Up Your Questions’ online course. I love Lou’s approach as it resonates with how I feel about driver training, she is positive and upbeat without ever being condescending. I’m sometimes put off other training resources by poor choice of wording, phrasing or tone. Lou is brilliant at what she does and I was over the moon to recognise bits of what I already do in her guidance while at the same time realising I have so much more I can improve on. By the time I’ve finished trying to implement this lot I think autonomous cars will have put me out of a job. I went through the course twice and I’ve summarised my feelings in a write up which now sits at the front of my pupil records folder where I’ll see it every day, seeing it constantly will prompt me and I know gradually bits of it will filter through into my teaching and undoubtably make me better at my job. Highly recommended to other driving instructors.

Sensory Processing Disorders

This short 30 minute audiobook seeks to explain what Irlen Syndrome and sensory processing disorders are, I got it for free on the back of having just finished a book on Irlen Syndrome (wouldn’t pay full price for just half an hour!).

Thinking In Pictures : Autism

Related to autism I’ve read a few of Temple Grandins books now and this one is particularly insightful regarding how some individuals think in pictures not words which can have many advantages. It seems likely that animals think using pictures. I love the diversity within the human race and the gradual acceptance that there is not a standard way of thinking but variation of brain types each with their strengths and weaknesses, if we don’t acknowledge this it leads to communication/learning issues and barriers. We are all so different and it’s nice to see someone else’s personal perception of the world around them. Worth reading to explore your understanding of ASD (autism spectrum disorder).
